For those of you that aren't familiar with Tapas, where have you been!
Tapas bars are the most popular bars in Valencia and each bar has its own unique atmosphere, all catering for the clients with a superb blend of local tapas dishes only found in several places to more well known tapas such as Tortilla and Jamon y Queso.
Below is a few typical tapas dishes that can be found up and down the region of Valencia:
Aceitunas: Simply olives marinated in a local sauce often stuffed with peppers, garlic or jalapenos.
Boquerones: These are anchovies marinated in a olive oil and red wine vinegar dressing.
Calamares: This is squid either deep fried or in a tomatoe and onion red wine sauce.
Chorizo: Another Spanish traditon. This is a spicy sausage which comes in many different flavours and sizes.
Ensaladilla: Mixture of potatoes, eggs and vegetables together with mayonnaise. Superb blend of ingredients.
Gaspacho: A cold tomatoe and vegetable based soup with spices and herbs. Very healthy and great with bread.
Patatas Bravas: Cubed Roasted potatoes with a spicy sauce and herbed, a very popular dish and very delicious
Jamon Iberico y Queso: An old classic. Deliciously cured ham with a variety of different cheeses. Simply superb. (Please note Jamon Iberico is the best ham, but is also reflected by the price. Jamon Serrano is not as good but more affordable)
Mejillones: These are mussels and usually come with a tomato based hot sauce, but may vary from bar to bar. My favourite.
Tortilla de Patata: This is an omelette with cubed potatoes and often other vegetables like onion. Can also include jamon and other meat.
Sepia: These are grilled cutllefish usually served with a garlic mayonnaise.
