Dansa Valencia 2009 takes place from 24 April to 17 May 2009.

Twenty one years have consolidated this dance festival as a clear reference point for professionals and dance enthusiasts in our countryDansa València is an open window on to a choreographic vision of dance today. Different theatres are home to the productions, which have very diverse formats and origins.

The present that becomes the future. The International Dance Festival of Valencia (Spain), Dansa València, from 24th April to 17th May, organised by the Valencian Centro Coreográfico de Teatres, celebrates dance and dance of today. Breaking styles and geographic boundaries, because transfusions are constant across disciplines and the most realistic do not have territorial limits. This edition comes with surprises, including the addition of new locations and stages, extending the length of the festival, and emphasising its internationalisation.

The International Festival Dansa València is an essential date for anyone interested in the latest choreographic styles. The programme is packed with big names such as Ohad Naharin’s Batsheva Dance Company, Wayne McGregor’s Random Dance, Mar Gómez, the choreographer Juan Domínguez, the company Catherine Diverres, and Ballets de Monte Carlo, from Jean-Christophe Maillot, among others. The International Festival Dansa València is an epicentre of dance.

The Teatro Principal will be the backbone of the festival and it is there that three of the biggest names in the dance world will perform. The festival will be opened by Batsheva Dance Company directed by Ohad Naharin, which this year will Dansa València 2009 prize personally in recognition of his artistic career. Naharin is one of the biggest names of choreographers but has very seldom come to our shores with his company. He will present his performance “Three” on 24th and 25th of April.

The 2nd and 3rd of May will see "Entity" by Random Dance with choreography by Wayne McGregor, the great innovator of the British scene that comes to Valencia backed by international critics as "a genius in full flow."

To close the festival at the Teatro Principal, 14th to 17th May, the Ballets de Monte Carlo will present "Altro Canto I and II", by its director Jean Christophe Maillot. This prestigious cast, heirs of the Great Russian Ballets of Diaghilev, continues the tradition of academic choreography with an elegance and creativity which places it at the top of the global elite.
