Horse racing on the beach at Castellon
On Sunday, February 28th 2010 in Castellón at Gurugu beach, the Government of Castellón and the Asociación de Amigos de los Caballos (Horse friend’s Association) –A.C.A-, will organize les Corregudes de Cavalls per la joia (the horse races after the jewel). The race begins at 11:00hrs.
| People from Castellón follow their ancestors’ tradition by celebrating this special race. In the past, it was an opportunity to show off ability and mastery to their friends, neighbours and lovers. The jockeys did not use saddles and the horses were wearing just a halter. In addition, these jockeys were mounting with loose reins; in this way they could use their stick on either side to urge on the horses (at that time spurs were not used). |  |

Like each year, lovers of traditions and horses gather in this encounter where riders and their thoroughbred horses (English, Arab and mixed) will bravely compete for the joia, trophy that the winner will offer to their loved one.
