Moors & Christians in Elche
Elche welcomes everyone to their festivities of Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians) from 25 July until 12 August 2009.
These celebrations recreate the conquest of Elche by Jaume I in 1265. Every year, the different groups depict the entrance of Moors and Chrisitans with spectacular parades, the firing of muskets, and the sumptuous display of the Moorish and Christian Embassies. Other celebrations include the Baptism of the Moor and the floral offering to the Virgin of the Assumption.
