Villarreal CF
The other top team in The Region of Valencia is Villarreal CF, located about 45 minutes north of Valencia near Castellon. Villarreal had surpassed all expectations last year by finishing in 3rd position in La Liga, leading to a Champions League experience which sadly ended in the semi-final in a narrow 1-0 aggregate defeat to Arsenal.
This season Villarreal has finished in 7th position which sadly means there will be no Champions League football there next year, but they have finished in the Intertoto Cup position, which offers a route into the UEFA Cup.
Villarreal CF also has its fair share of stars. Upfront they have the former Manchester United hitman Diego Forlan, who finished last season as 'El Pichichi' with 25 goals, backed up by the outstanding Argentine playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme in centre of midfield, with flying left-back Juan Pablo Sorin in the defence.
